Sanskruti (Sunny) Kulkarni

Founder of Lettering to Change

Welcome to Lettering to Change!

My name is Sanskruti Kulkarni, but most people just call me Sunny. I’m the founder of Lettering to Change. I am a senior at Lake Washington High School, not too far from Seattle, Washington. My favorite activites are lettering (obviously!) and badminton, which I play competitively with a big dream of representing the US one day.

In my freshman year English class, my teacher assigned us all a book report, the classic dreaded English assignment. We were supposed to read a book teaching us how to do something, and then create a video displaying what we learned.

I had tried calligraphy before, but it hadn’t been very successful. I ordered some brush pens online and a modern calligraphy book teaching me tons of tips, and before I knew it, I was spending ALL my free time on an English assignment. Using the new methods I learned from the book, I made a time-lapse video of my calligraphy, and shared it with my classmates.

After the thrill of the experience and the positive response from my classmates, I was hooked. Calligraphy and lettering became my creative outlets.

I’ve always been interested in health and medicine, and when I came across charity: water, an organization with a mission to bring clean water to everyone in the world, I was extremely inspired. I was determined to find a way to help out and bring awareness to this organization and the health issue it is tackling as well as other health related issues.

I decided my lettering was the best tool I have to spread information about global health issues and encourage others to get involved. Additionally, I want to use the profits from my work to help donate to organizations that are already doing amazing things.

My mission is to create awareness and impact on global health issues through my calligraphy and hand lettering.
